The Crew Coach is delighted to announce the 2017 Superyacht Scholarship winners have all successfully obtained entry level positions in the yachting industry and are on the way to fulfilling their dreams of building a successful career in luxury yachting. The incredible prizes, time and dedication provided by the program’s mentors and sponsors, combined with the passion and hard work of these stellar candidates has seen them all achieve excellent results in getting their yachting careers off to a great start.
Engineering winner, 23-year-old Nikita van der Voort of The Netherlands is now working as a Deckhand/Junior Engineer onboard a 33m motor yacht: “Thanks to the Superyacht Scholarship and all the sponsors, traveling while working is no longer a dream but an opportunity within reach! They awarded me, among other prizes, with a scholarship for an engineering course. I would like to thank all the amazing sponsors for turning my life upside down!”
English born Deckhand Euan Dodd, 25, has obtained a sole Deckhand position onboard a 35m Sunseeker motor yacht and is loving every minute of cruising the Med this summer. “It’s always been my dream to make yachting my career and through the help of this amazing scholarship, that dream has now become a reality.”
After gaining considerable daywork experience on large yachts, interior scholarship winner Heather Francis aged 20 of South Africa has launched her career with a fantastic opportunity working in the household of an esteemed superyacht owner’s private estate, with the possibility of moving between their villas and yachts as required. “I have been given an amazing opportunity and would like to thank and show my appreciation to all the sponsors of the Superyacht Scholarship. I am so thankful and blessed for this opportunity and hope I’ll make you all proud.”
Meanwhile 28-year-old American Ryan Katona has undergone several temporary assignments aboard large motor yachts and is soon to join an iconic 90m classic sailing yacht: “Winning the Superyacht Scholarship has been such a blessing! I want to thank all of the amazing sponsors for this opportunity of a lifetime!”
These four winners were selected from hundreds of applicants from all over the world, by a panel of judges including the program’s mentors and crew agents as well as The Crew Coach founder Alison Rentoul.
With each scholarship prize package worth over €3,200 euro, and additional jackpot prizes worth up to €1200, this unique program could not run without the generosity of its sponsors and mentors.
The incredible prizes including training courses, yachting uniform, accommodation, CV optimising and career coaching, a personal yachting industry mentor and crew agency red carpet treatment, create an outstanding opportunity for those wanting to break into a career in yachting.
Each winner received an entry-level training course relevant to their department, from a respected training provider, worth around €1000 euro.
Interior: Luxury Hospitality Group provided a GUEST-approved, 5-day intense introduction to yachting course, Value: €1,075.
Chef: Secrets de Cuisine training school in Antibes offered a fantastic head-start training course, of an HABC level 3 food hygiene certificate, food photo shoot and photobook. Value: €1,050. In addition to this, Amandine Cuisine provided our chef winner with a beautiful hand crafted Japanese knife valued at €150.
Exterior: Zephyr Yachting supplied a bundle of fantastic entry-level deck courses: Personal Watercraft Course, VHF license and Powerboat Level 2. Value: €1100. In addition to this Quay Crew gifted our deckhand with a Go Pro camera valued at €150.
Engineer: Bluewater provided a 5-day Approved Engineering Certificate course with a value of €1050.
Assistance and Mentoring Prizes:
The Crew Coach, founder of the Superyacht Scholarship, aided the winners with one year of access to their Crew Career Mastermind program, giving them a private members-only Facebook group, fortnightly group coaching sessions, online courses and training and a professional CV Turnaround package. Value: €2,897.
The winners were looked after personally by a dedicated crew agent who gave them a ‘red carpet’ service in helping them find work. The dedicated crew agents for each department winner were: Chef winner: Amandine International Chef Placement; Interior: Camper & Nicholsons International crew placement; Exterior: Quay Crew; Engineering: YPI Crew.
Each winner was also paired up with their own personal yachting industry mentor, a senior crew member who guided them through their first year of yachting with advice, contacts and a wealth of insider experience.
