Part 1 : There Are No Snakes in Paradise are there?

On the 4th of March 2016 at approximately 01:35 am two armed assailants boarded a yacht at anchor in a quiet cove in Walliabou, St Vincent and fatally injured one German male and injured the Captain during the ordeal.

According to reports the deceased Mr Martin Griff, a 49-year-old Accountant of Germany was on-board a yacht when he was attacked by unknown assailants. He sustained a gunshot wound to his throat and succumbed to the injuries. Police are also carrying out investigations into the attempted murder of Mr Reinhold Zeller, the 63-year-old Captain at the time, Mr. Zeller sustained a gunshot wound to his left shoulder after he was also attacked on-board.

Friday’s attack on the yacht is the second such fatal attack on a yacht in Central Leeward. About 13 years ago, some residents of the neighbouring Central Leeward town of Barrouallie, killed the occupants and blew up a yacht anchored there. Several people were later convicted of the crime.

Ironically this all took place in popular sheltered cove which was part of the set for the holly wood blockbuster movie “Pirates of the Caribbean”.

The Prime Minister of Saint Vincent & Grenadine (SVG) Ralph Gonsalves commented “This incident has happened, which has shattered our sense of peace and tranquillity”. Governments of a number of Caribbean countries recognize the seriousness of the problem and are exploring innovative policy responses at both the national and regional levels.

To assist yacht crews with situational awareness and some basic security precautions we will publish a number of short features and guidelines for FREE taken from our years of experience of intelligence gathering, VIP protection and security training.
