Personal Statement

Having successfully completed my Unlimited Engineer Officer of the Watch III/1 at Warsash Maritime Academy, I am now look-ing to develop my skills further with a role as an engineer on a new ship. Prior to the cadetship, I worked as a scuba diving and yachting industry for several years. This has taken me all over the world meeting and working with a variety of people from many cultures and backgrounds. During my time in these different working environments, I have had the opportunity to grow and develop much as a person. On occasions, I’ve been ‘thrown in at the deep end’, which has meant that I’ve constantly had to push myself. This in turn has resulted in developing a wide range of skills – interpersonal, presentational, organisational and leadership to name a few. I do feel that I have been successful in these roles over the years. In addition, I have held positions giving me significant day-to-day responsibility for managing people and operations. I would definitely describe myself as a ‘people person’; one of the main reasons I enjoy this profession is that I thrive being around, and working with others, which makes the whole experience thoroughly enjoyable for me. As the job always requires both the ability and willingness to engage with other people, then I am a good fit.
