I am an experienced and capable engineer looking for a new challenge on large sail or motor yacht preferably with my partner (Chief Stew/ 2nd Stew) either rotational or full time with a reasonable amount of annual leave. I have been engineering professionally for 14 years since leaving school, and have grown up around boats from an early age. I am a focused worker and aim to use my initiative & experience coupled with strong practical skills to resolve problems in a professional manner. Employed as deckhand / engineer. As well as maintaining the exterior of the yacht I undertook all servicing of onboard systems. In addition, small refit work including new rudder bearings / seals, new air con units and dressing and installation of new rig.

CAT C18, Northern Lights Gen Sets Completing a busy program with extensive world cruising through the Pacific down to NZ and returning via Patagonia and Brazil. I managed the engineering works for Salperton’s 5 yr Lloyds survey and refit whilst in Auckland. This included a main engine top end rebuild, shaft overhaul and organising and overseeing contractors. Other projects included an overhaul of the HVAC system, full generator rebuilds main engine alignment work + servicing also boat prep and participation in Super yacht Regattas. I am also a navigational watch leader during passages and heavily involved with sailing operation.

S/Y Elfje

SCANIA D16, Whisper Power Hyd Gen, Steyr SE156 Elfje is a very complex yacht with a hybrid power generation onboard. Running off High Voltage DC bus with variable speed generators and a large LiFe battery bank performing DC peak shaving. Power it utilised through Grid converters and multiple frequency drives. As well as in-depth knowledge of the power generation, during my time I have also managed several refits and upgrades onboard including Lloyds 5 Yr survey, hydraulic system rebuild, Powerblock battery bank + DCDC converter replacement which took 18months of planning alone due to complexity. Also Upgrade and replacement of network hardware & 4G set up, VSAT, media system, B&G equip, service of captive winches and lifting keel arrangement.

Interests

Having just summited Kilimanjaro this Christmas with my partner I enjoy hiking and being outdoors. I am also a competent sailor and have sailed competitively at both National and European level from a young age in dinghies and keel boats. I also enjoy scuba diving and have been lucky enough to dive in some of the best dive sites in the Pacific as well as having a keen interest in cars.
