In these difficult times we know that it is hard to predict what is just around the corner. With border closures, travel restrictions and social distancing everyone’s first thought at the moment is their own health, and the well being of those around them; but there is no harm in keeping the conversation going at this time. So, who are we? We are Suze and Tom. Like most people you must receive job applications from, we have a passion for sailing and the outdoors. We have been working together for five years; progressing from Flotilla crew for Neilson to stand alone crew managing a base for Tradewinds. We have experience chartering for international guests, boat owners, company investors and managers. Most recently we have completed a transatlantic delivery from Croatia to Antigua with Tom as Captain, and as crew on an Oyster 85′ from Guadeloupe to Majorca in May this year. How can we help you? In terms of qualifications, Tom has a commercially endorsed Yachtmaster Ocean and Cruising Instructor and an ENG1 valid until 2023. Suze is also an experienced sailor holding her Day Skipper with a wealth of sailing experience across her entire life, as well as a diploma in personal training with class teaching qualifications including outdoor training, circuits and indoor cycling. We both have PADI Divemaster qualifications as well as STCW valid until 2023. We started working together on flotilla for two years in Greece, then running the flagship chalet for More Mountain in Morzine, France, which set us up to move into chartering in 2017. As you will see on our CVs we have worked in a range of roles in various sailing areas for Tradewinds over the last three years. We think that we could be a real asset to you because we are an outgoing and passionate couple who are quick to learn. We have a real breadth of customer facing and management experience that inform our high quality customer service. We have a real passion for sailing and love to use this to add real value to our clients vacations. Over the last five years working together we have developed to a point where we can consistently offer that level of service to clients in our care. What have guests said about us? During the last five years we have had some amazing feedback, written, verbal and online from guests and colleagues alike. Below are some examples. ||‘Tom was a great flotilla skipper. Always positive and encouraging and he inspired total confidence. Suze was an excellent mate. We appreciated her genuine attention and very informative briefings. Her restaurant choices were perfect.’ – Sept ‘16 || The hosts Tom & Suze were brilliant, as they would go out of their way to make sure we were all comfortable and knew what was going on throughout the week, they kept the place immaculate and provided cooked breakfasts each morning, a different afternoon cake was cooked freshly each day to snack on after coming off the mountain and the 3 course evening meals were really good – the kind of meals you’d find in a snazzy restaurant! If I had a choice I’d definitely stay there again… a third time :) 10/10 All round! – Mar ‘17 || It is not often that you encounter service like yours! It would be easy for you both to go through the motions, but not Tom and Suze. Thanks for your passion and your ability to produce a Ritz like experience. – June ’18 || Our expectations were high and you exceeded them in every way. Not only are you incredible sailors, hosts, cooks and tour guides but you are genuinely wonderful people. We appreciated the shared meals, stories, laughter and hope our paths cross again in the future. Suze you are a true ‘badass’ After we caught the Mahi Mahi on the last day, you flawlessly filleted the fish and put together yet another amazing meal. Tom, you are an excellent captain and a secret comedian. Every sail was enjoyable, relaxing and fun. – Guadeloupe ’19 || I said last year that we hoped to see you again and so it was great to sail with you guys this summer. Another perfect trip with amazing anchorages: Krka National Park, Skradin and of course Stivina bay. The best way to say thank you is simply to say we look forward to seeing you again, again. – Sept ’19 || What makes us different? We work exceptionally well as a team, and being able to draw on very different experiences only enhances the service that we give. We are a well balanced team and have really developed in the six years that we have been working together. Suze was an events manager for a youth homeless charity for two years. This brought her in to contact with a vast array of people from many walks of life. Her main responsibilities were delivering workshops to homeless young people and networking into companies, businesses and even Welsh Government. This role may seem a far cry from sailing, but as a result she is brilliant at building relationships and varying tone and style to suit different individuals. This has proved invaluable in being able to manage people’s expectations, think on her feet and deal with situations that could prove challenging. In 2013 Tom was involved in the Talisker Whiskey row of the Atlantic. This involved an eighteen month campaign to get to the start line which involved gaining sponsorship, fitting out and provisioning the boat as well as touring round the south of the UK to raise awareness. Unfortunately due to a five day storm Tom’s race was curtailed resulting in an airlift. He was then part of a dedicated rescue mission to retrieve the rowing boat from the ocean, taking two attempts and nearly 1000 miles. This has made him acutely aware of the safety of those on board, but also gives him a calm confidence in challenging situations. This calm confidence is often commented on by guests who have been sailing with us in adverse weather conditions and storms. Tom can think creatively to ensure guests are safe and happy, whilst not feeling dictated to and continue to enjoy their experience. A final thought… We are very proud of the career we have started to carve out for ourselves, but we want to progress further. We enjoy exploring new places on the water and ashore, and giving people once in a lifetime vacations. One of the highlights for us has been building a new destination in Croatia for Tradewinds over the last two summer seasons. We have loved drawing on lots of different areas of our expertise, as well as knowledge of the guest expectations to build something that is going to last for the company. This involved setting up and having systems and procedures for provisioning, budgeting and accounting, finding and perfecting a route around the islands, networking with local tour providers and restaurants, engineering and maintaining the boat and reporting regularly as well as keeping an ongoing relationship with housekeeping and engineering staff. We enjoy this added management responsibility for the charter and have been promoted to this level fairly quickly a number of times. We are looking to move to a larger boat with a more varied itinerary to be able to progress and develop our passion further. We think that we can offer the skills and experience that you are looking for and are always excited to rise to a challenge. We are currently in the UK with no notice period due to the Coronavirus. Our Cvs are attached to our profiles, and please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions or queries We look forward to hearing from you. Yours sincerely Tom Hyland and Suze Entwistle
